Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC)
Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic disease that affects bile ducts. Bile ducts are important for transporting bile from the liver and gallbladder to the small intestine. When the bile ducts are damaged it can back up into the liver and sometimes lead to irreversible scarring of liver tissue. In some cases, bile duct cancer can develop.
It is estimated that approximately 1 in 10,000 people have PSC. Further Hepatology research is being done to learn more about how to treat it.
